Guest Post by Lisa Johnson

I guess it should come as no surprise that I turn to journaling, reading, time management, and collage during this quarantine. It has been a roller coaster of emotions and quite the jarring and bumpy ride. As I think time management, self care, and mental health are so important during this new normal (and I have been grabbing hold of these things these past 6 weeks for dear life and a sense of normalcy), I decided to create a May calendar of prompts. These are 31 quarantine journaling prompts that are drawn from ideas within Creatively Productive and beyond and can be used in conjunction with your JournalLAP or any journal (digital or analog).

There are so many benefits to journaling from improved sleep, lessening depression and anxiety, boosting memory, strengthening self-discipline, gaining clarity, prioritizing problems, and providing opportunities for gratitude and positive self talk. Before I share the calendar of quarantine prompts, I wanted to provide a little more insight and information:

  • Audience and Scope: The prompts should be appropriate for pretty much any age group (e.g. students or adult learners). The prompts include a large scope and include ideas to support time management, positive procrastination, self care, reflection, habit tracking, mental health, and more.
  • Calendar: The calendar has 2 versions (one is floral… because “April showers bring May flowers” and the other is more calm and less colorful for those of you that don’t like the busyness.) All of the prompts are the same in each version. Each day has a prompt (including the weekends) but really feel free to complete the ones that speak to you or your students. Click HERE for downloadable calendar images.
  • Sharing:  Because sharing positivity, possibilities, and personal tips, tools, and ideas is so needed right now, we have added an element of sharing. If you decide to participate, please snap a pic of your journal spread or your response to each day’s prompts and share to BOTH of these #’s #CreativelyProductive and #JournalLap on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Tools:  Whether you are a journaling pro or a novice, this will be a blast, I promise. If you are going analog, grab your #JournalLAP or analog journal and some fancy pens, a little washi, a few stickers, etc… If you are going digital, use a tool like Google Slides, Keynote, Google Docs, Book Creator, Pages, Evernote, GoodNotes, Notability, etc...

Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy at home. Remember to take care of yourself in addition to your students and your families.
